Description

As an international showcase city, Antalya looks forward to achieving sustainable local development by providing a high quality of life, skilled employment and competitive service, agricultural and clean industries.

The 2015-2019 Strategic Plan of the Metropolitan Municipality envisions Antalya to have a transparent, participate and efficient administration dedicated to its cultural, historical and ecological heritage. Despite its rapid growth in urban migration, its local government is aware of the need to protect the city’s and its hinterland’s natural, ecological and historical endowments. Moreover, it wants to transform the city by letting it be a smart service hub of the region, modernizing its agricultural sector and maximising its resource efficiency while diversifying the tourism sector.

The first of the many "smart districts" targeted by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of urban transformation is the New Kepez Santral District.  Infrastructure, energy, mobility, water, lighting, environment, security, health, smart home and integrated technology solutions will be provided to 80.000 residents who will live and work in the region by the year 2019.

Antalya will serve as a role model for the Southern Europe and Middle East regions in creating Smart Cities from Scratch.

Within MAtchUP the City of Antalya will focus on:

- constructing new high-performance buildings in the district,

- improving the sustainable mobility across the whole city (a new fleet of electrical vehicles with the corresponding charging points)

Technologies

Buildings and energy

The district current conditions is only based on the regulation, as highlighted in the table below, taking into account that the buildings are new constructions.

The main action within the MAtchUP project will involve the increasing of solar power, the installation of solar thermal collection, the installation of smart controls and led public lighting to reduce the energy consumption and to increase the share of renewable energy then reducing emissions and pollution.

Mobility & Transport

Mobility in Antalya is basically focused on two types of transportation, electric and diesel. In this sense, the most part of the transportation systems are diesel-fuelled, i.e. taxi, school-work services and pick-up buses.

Then, the objective of the municipality is to reduce these numbers with the aim of avoiding CO2 emissions and increasing the sustainable public

transport in the city.

ICT

The Municipality of Antalya, in line with its Digital Agenda, has developed a global ICT-Infrastructure in which many vertical services of the city are integrated.

This Urban Platform of Antalya is in charge of gathering information from these municipal services and to provide information to make city decisions by elaborating a set of key indicators to support this process.

Another objective of the platform is to offer open data to the citizens and municipal managers to support all the necessary information to ease their daily life.

Citizen Engagement

The city of Antalya believes that the citizen participation in urban policy-making is essential for becoming a Smart City: the urban transformation of city passes thorough the involvement and the endorsement of its citizens.

Having this in mind, the city of Antalya is planning to have a citizen-centric approach with several actions and activities expressly dedicated to its inhabitants to raise awareness and acceptance.

Programs for social and local entrepreneurs, participation, education and co-creation activities addressed to citizens, business opportunities for the district inhabitants, local toolkit for the improvement of renewable energies are only few of the numerous activities that the city is planning to organise.
