Small and medium-sized municipalities — the progressive ones of which are referred to as "Small Giants" in the EU SC Marketplace — face unique challenges and possess specific strengths when incorporating sustainable mobility options into their modal mix. These communities often operate with smaller budgets and less densely populated areas, coupled with fewer public mobility offers. However, they benefit from close-knit communities, decision-makers who are more accessible, and a generally shorter distance from planning to action.
Join us in this online workshop session with the Small Giants Focus Group of the Smart Cities Marketplace. Participants will explore strategies to accelerate sustainable mobility in smaller communities in a manner that has significant broader benefits; and discover how collaboration with peers can facilitate the implementation of solutions for better and cleaner mobility with less risk and keener implementation costs.
This cooperative session will focus on practical approaches to deliver concrete initiatives such as "Mobility Islands," considering various funding and financing options. We will also discuss how to use "place-making" as a key driver of sustainable mobility in small and medium-sized cities.
