Description

The industrial zone Labore is situated in Slovenia’s 3rd largest city Kranj. The demonstrator deals with waste-heat utilization from low temperature dirty condensate with the help of heat-pumps for reuse in the industrial process as well as using the excess heat to supply nearby households through the district heating network. The industrial PED consists of 2 hydropower plants, multiple rooftop PVs, CHP with 5MW excess heat potential, eV charging stations, and nearby household with potential for replacing natural gas with district heating.

In the frame of PEDvolution:

  • Existing industrial components for low-temp dirty condensate inside will be equipped with calorimeters to determine precise temperatures whereas PEDvolution toolset will calculate accurate waste-heat energy output.
  • Nearby hydropower plants will be virtually connected to the industrial complex. A new energy community will provide renewable energy with long-term fixed electricity prices to reduce risks related to energy markets.
  • Waste-heat inside one of the buildings in the PED will be reused in the industrial process to reduce the required amount of heat derived from natural gas fired CHP. Excess heat not used in the industrial process will be transferred to a second nearby PED for the possibility of completely excluding the need for natural gas which is currently used for district heating of 4700 households.
  • New software solutions integrated with PEDvolution toolset will be implemented to allow automatic dynamic demand response of individual buildings and industrial equipment in order to most cost-efficiently adapt to the upcoming new tariff system.
