Description

The Hard community in Winterthur, Switzerland consists of 45 apartments and around 40 businesses. The residents and employees of the community have made ecology their common goal. This is evident in various ways. For example, a lot of value is placed on the use of sustainably produced energy. Hydroelectric power is and has been an important component of the site from the beginning. A solar plant and gas boiler generate heat for the development. Newly, since the end of 2021, the site has been producing its own electrical energy with an attached photovoltaic plant. In addition, charging stations for charging several electric vehicles are available on the nearby parking field. The building usage includes single households and multifamily apartments as well as industrial and general use buildings.

In the frame of PEDvolution the WInterthur demonstrator will achieve:

  • Energy cost reduction by the implementation of an energy community.
  • Reduction in the use of fossil resources by increasing the share of renewable energies in the individual areas.
  • Reduction of CO2 emissions through the use of PV systems, heat pump and electric vehicles, which can achieve an annual savings potential.
  • Increase of the acceptance of and enthusiasm for solar energy, e-vehicles and sharing.
