If a district is to become energy-positive, the entire local community must take part in the energy transition. This social dimension needs to be incorporated, alongside the built environment, industry, mobility, climate and other areas, into a comprehensive framework to guide decarbonisation efforts. With digital twins, we can model pathways to reaching a positive energy balance and climate neutrality. But the challenge is how to adequately represent elements beyond the physical properties of a city in a digital twin to achieve a holistic view of the urban environment, with the social dimension included. To explore this conundrum, BIPED invited Martin Traunmueller, Research Engineer at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, to its podcast.
