The Scalable Cities community is excited to announce its participation in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 taking place in Barcelona, Spain between November 5th - 7th.
Scalable Cities will be joining other European projects and initiatives under the joint European Commission-led representation featuring a diverse group of partners, initiatives, and projects. Together they bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, best practices and sustainable solutions aimed at helping European cities enabling them to achieve their climate neutrality goals. All partners and projects under the joint representation are actively implementing, replicating and scaling up solutions supported through the European Green Deal and REPowerEU policies and spearheaded by the European Commission to ensure affordable, secure and sustainable energy future to achieve the ambitious goals of 2030 Agenda and a climate-neutral Europe.
At the Expo, Scalable Cities will be taking an active role in the promotion of these policies at the event, showcasing how sustainable and innovative solutions and business models are being developed and implemented at the local level in cities. The community will be represented by a number of projects, namely:
The three day event will feature numerous of sessions, workshops and panel discussions attended by seasoned smart city professionals and experts from diverse fields presenting topics including business models and financing, innovative procurement, digital solutions and digital twins, energy communities, Positive Energy Districts (PEDs), artificial intelligence, citizen engagement and replication activities.
The first day of the event on November 5th, Scalable Cities will kickstart the the programme with several booth sessions taking place at the EC booth D81 at Hall 2, focusing on the smart cities ecosystem, its origins and where it is headed that will be augmented by experiences from cities of Dijon (RESPONSE), Dresden (NEUTRALPATH) and Porto (ASCEND). It will be followed by another booth session exploring how technology, policy and regulatory barriers intersect in developing and implementing PEDs with examples from the projects ATELIER, MAKING-CITY and POCITYF. The first day will be closed by larger-scale agora session that will zero in on the power of communities and how stakeholder engagement can unite citizens, leaders, businesses, and financiers to create vibrant and sustainable districts and cities.
November 6th will include four high-profile and impactful workshops. The first will be a joint workshop organized by ASCEND and NEUTRALPATH projects exploring the different business models for energy communities across Europe. The second workshop will be dealing with speeding and scaling climate innovations in cities to achieve the 2030 and 2050 targets. The third workshop will focus on the replication impact assessment, exploring the long-term impacts of the EU's Smart Cities and Communities projects and gaining valuable insights into their progress. The last workshop will focus on the future to ensure the smart cities community legacy and impacts will be preserved.
The last day of the event, November 7th will feature a number of sessions presented by the Scalable Cities experts who will engage in an interactive discussions with city representatives on topics including the replication of of smart cities solutions in small and medium-sized cities, energy communities, innovative procurement, urban digital twins and the AI. The last day of the event will also include an agora session dealing with how scaling Positive Energy Districts across Europe transform urban areas into better, more livable cities.
