Interested in 5G for Smart Communities? Join the Commission’s Conference on 11 October!

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital funding programme aims to support and catalyse both public and private investments in digital connectivity infrastructures between 2021 and 2027. One of the funding opportunities under this programme concerns “5G for Smart Communities” (5GSC) and consists of deploying 5G projects that will have an impact on citizens and businesses in many sectors, notably in healthcare, education, public administration, transport and more. 

On 11 October, the European Commission will hold an in-person conference to discuss the 5G for Smart Communities action further. The event aims to bring together key stakeholders, including mobile network operators, alternative operators, equipment manufacturers and public authorities, to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas, insights and best practices related to 5G and smart cities, as well as the funding opportunities for 5G deployment at EU level. 

The conference will offer informative presentations by the European Commission on the 5G for Smart Communities action and the upcoming third CEF call for proposals, which is expected to open in October 2023. 

Presentations will be followed by two break-out sessions: one presented by 5G network providers, and another by use case owners. In both cases, the speakers will present their experiences from projects they developed. 

The goal is to exchange ideas on how to make a project successful from both perspectives i.e., by sharing key success factors, challenges, solutions, etc. As both sessions will be open to the public, participants are welcome to share their own experiences, including how they prepared or are preparing for the application process, what kinds of projects they wish to develop, or lessons learned from the past. The idea is to have an interactive and fruitful discussion with a diverse group of stakeholders.
