European Sustainable Energy Week

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Policy Conference is the biggest conference dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe. The 19th edition of the Policy Conference will take place in a hybrid format in Brussels and online on 10-12 June 2025.

The European Commission and energy stakeholders are organising sessions focusing on sustainable energy issues, highlighting new policy developments, best practices, and innovative ideas. In addition to these sessions, EUSEW will feature networking opportunities that connect the community and the EUSEW Awards, which will honour outstanding individuals, projects, and ideas that have made significant contributions to sustainable energy.

During the conference, the European Youth Energy Day invites young people aged 18 to 34 to share their ideas on transforming Europe into the first climate-neutral continent.

All these initiatives are unified under EUSEW, which aims to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing across diverse stakeholders in the energy sector.

The Smart Cities Marketplace is co-organising a session called "Affordable Housing in a Green Transition: Financing Solutions for Inclusive and Sustainable Living".

Date:  Tuesday 10 June, at 16:30 - 18:00 CEST

As Europe transitions toward a sustainable, climate-neutral future, addressing the lack of affordable and energy-efficient housing becomes urgent. Affordable housing plays a dual role: tackling social inequality while reducing emissions in the built environment. However, financing constraints, high upfront renovation costs, and fragmented policies create barriers to progress.

This session will focus on integrating energy efficiency and the adoption of renewable technologies (such as solar heat) into affordable housing plans through innovative financial mechanisms, public-private partnerships, and EU-led initiatives (notably under the Fitx55 package with REDN EED and EPBD or such as the Smart Cities Marketplace, the EU Cities Mission and the Mission platform managed by NetZeroCities). The session will demonstrate pathways to scale up energy-efficient/renewable and affordable housing projects across Europe by exploring case studies, financing tools, and policy frameworks.
