A catalyst for driving social and economic sustainability in cities across the European Union, the EIP-SCC Marketplace brought its 2018 General Assembly to Sofia, Bulgaria, 27-28 June. This year’s event debuted an onsite matchmaking programme designed to stimulate investment in civic improvements, bringing city and industry representatives seeking support for projects together with motivated investors.
The 2018 General Assembly provided a unique opportunity for smart city actors to meet, network, learn, shape views, develop plans, exchange best practices, present projects, find partners, and stimulate discussions that all go to help achieve the ambitions of the EIP-SCC Marketplace, to facilitate €1 billion worth of smart city project investments in 300 European cities by 2020.
In order to support the projects' development and accelerate investments in the Smart City panorama, the event was structured in three main thematic areas: Explore, Shape and Deal:
The Explore Zone equipped attendees with vital knowledge on 24 different topics to move forward with their projects. Attendees had open access to the Showcase Pods, Knowledge Wall, Speakers' Corner and Community Meetup Zone.
The Shape thematic working groups deepened knowledge and gave insights from experts on 21 different topics. The focus? Understanding market needs; the EIP-SCC initiatives addressing them; and how to accelerate their adoption by the market.
The Deal discussions provided the opportunity to create relationships between promoters and investors. The EIP-SCC Matchmaking Platform facilitated these meetings and networking opportunities between projects and financiers.
