The European Commission has launched a call for applications for members of the new mandate of the Platform on Sustainable Finance.
The Platform is an advisory body composed of experts from the private and public sector. Its role is to advise the European Commission – which is responsible for adopting Delegated Acts under the Taxonomy Regulation – on relevant topics related to the EU's sustainable finance framework and EU Taxonomy in particular. Its advice is an important part of the input the Commission receives in the decision-making process. The Platform will operate in a context where markets have started applying the Taxonomy and other sustainable finance regulations and tools.
While continuing to advise the Commission on the preparation of Taxonomy technical screening criteria, the new mandate of the Platform will reinforce its focus on the usability of the Taxonomy and the implementation of the Commission's wider Strategy for Financing the Transition to a Sustainable Economy. The composition and size of the new Platform will be updated to reflect and respond to this new context and dedicated subgroups will be established along these priorities. The new Platform will be composed of up to 35 members, of which up to 28 will be selected through today's call for applications. The Platform will be made up of a balance of stakeholders, including individuals appointed in a personal capacity with the relevant proven knowledge and experience, individuals representing a common interest shared by stakeholders, organisations representing relevant private stakeholders, organisations representing civil society, organisations representing academia and research institutes. The seven permanent members, i.e. representatives from public entities, will be directly appointed by DG FISMA.
The call for applications for the Platform on Sustainable Finance will be open for a period of 4 weeks. The deadline for applications is 9 November 2022.
As the two-year mandate of the current Platform is coming to an end in October, the next Platform is set to run from January 2023 for a two-year mandate. Please note that the current Platform on Sustainable Finance has published two reports, after the related launch events of Tuesday 11 October:
- Platform on Sustainable Finance’s report on Data and usability of the EU Taxonomy
- Platform on Sustainable Finance’s report on Minimum safeguards
- Recording of launch events on the Platform’s reports
The two reports published provide the Commission with important insights on the implementation of the EU Taxonomy and the application of minimum safeguards set out in Art. 18 of the Taxonomy Regulation.
