As part of procuRE’s work as Action Cluster for Business Models and Finance, the project is releasing a series of statements from procurers about what deep energy renovation means to them. Representatives from across the EU, as well as Turkey and Israel, have revealed how procuRE can help them to build an environmentally stable and sustainable future.
Each city has its own specific challenges in the race to become carbon neutral. For Eilat, its remote location makes a connection to the national grid vulnerable. The volatility of traditional renewable energies can add to this problem. As procuRE aims to produce a solution where all energy is produced on-site, it is a great step towards reducing the reliance on the grid.
On the other hand, Nuremberg’s colder northern climate conditions create a different set of challenges, particularly around heat insulation. Nevertheless, the municipality is also taking part in procuRE, intending to become a climate-neutral administration. Nuremberg City Municipality’s Peter Pfeifer stresses that “it’s not enough to have high standards for new buildings. Existing building’s need to be thoroughly renovated in terms of energy efficiency”. With 80% of existing buildings set to still be standing by 2050, this is inarguably the case.
By introducing their own challenges and visions for the future, participating procurers aim to encourage other public building operators to consider their own buildings’ future leading up to 2050 net neutrality goals. procuRE is inviting these groups to join as Preferred Partner Cities.
Preferred Partner Cities will benefit from an interactive exchange on project results and learn how the novel funding model PCP is helping to bring about innovation. They will also have first access to procuring the turnkey solutions developed after the successful completion of the project.
Interested partner cities are encouraged to state their interest via mail procure@empirica.com
