The latest “Smart and Sustainable Planning for Cities and Regions” conference proceedings – Results of SSPCR 2017 – have been just released and are now available for purchase on Springer’s e-bookshelf here.
The book presents a selection of the top contributions of the second SSPCR international conference on smart and sustainable planning hosted by EURAC in Bolzano (Italy) in March 2017. This event has attracted more than 160 researchers and practitioner from 20 different countries providing inspiring speeches, vibrant debates and encouraging networking.
Planning urban development in a way that accounts for a territory’s economic, social, environmental and energetic background not only contributes to improve citizens’ quality of life, but also to confront our future climate change challenges by means of innovative smart technological tools. Through a selection of forty-six papers by policy-makers, academics and consultants, the volume highlights current research in smart and sustainable planning, in which climate change adaptation represents just the “tip of the iceberg” defining our current need for a groundbreaking energy transition. Equally relevant towards this transformation are factors as ICTs, public spaces design and social inclusion; new business models for the smart city; strategies and actions for good governance; urban-rural linkages and innovation; rethinking mobility. The book’s depth in understanding and insightfulness in re-thinking demonstrate the breaking of new ground in smart and sustainable planning. A new ground that policy-makers, academics and consultants may build upon as a bedrock for smart and sustainable planning.
