Energy Union, EIP-SCC and Covenant of Mayors: Matching Cities and Finance

EIP-SCC and Covenant of Mayors Energy Union to host session at EU Sustainable Energy Week

In 2018, Member States will submit their draft National Energy and Climate Plans to achieve EU energy and climate targets. Comprehensively addressing policies and measures with a 2030 horizon, these Plans will enhance investor predictability across the EU.

Cities can be part of developing the national Plans and can contribute to achieving the Energy Union acting at the local level.

Local plans, such as the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs), developed by the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) signatory cities and being a prerequisite for receiving funding under the Horizon2020 Smart City Lighthouse project calls, will enable investors to identify opportunities and better engage in local projects.

The European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) and its Marketplace essentially enable such contributions by matching city actors.

Ahead of the EIP-SCC General Assembly in Sofia (27 & 28 June 2018), this session will showcase Smart City solutions implemented by Covenant of Mayors signatory cities that could be replicated.

It also brings together cities, businesses and financiers to jointly identify projects enabling cities contribute to the clean energy agenda.
