The GrowSmarter project – the first Smart City project funded under the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme to finish – ended in January of this year.
Based on experience gained through the project, the Cities of Stockholm (Sweden), Barcelona (Spain), and Cologne (Germany), alongside their GrowSmarter project partners, have launched a new publication outlining Smart City recommendations.
The publication ‘From Dream to Reality – Recommendations for Policymakers and Practitioners’ provides practitioners and policymakers with detailed advice on how to implement Smart City solutions at European, national and local levels.
Project Coordinator Gustaf Landahl, Head of Department Planning & Environment at the Environment and Health administration of the City of Stockholm, believes the publication is a useful tool, not just for policymakers, but also for those working, or hoping to get involved in Smart City Projects:
“GrowSmarter implemented more than 40 solutions in our three Lighthouse cities and worked extensively with replication internally and in other cities - especially in the project’s five Fellow Cities. We have drawn important lessons on Sustainable Urban Mobility, Low Energy Districts and the integration of infrastructure, and our recommendations cover everything from the procurement phase to the involvement of citizens. It is our hope that future projects will benefit from them,” says Landahl.
