As the world moves towards sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions, many existing systems still rely on outdated, fossil-fuel-based technologies. Integrating smart, IoT-based, and data-driven solutions is essential for advancing energy efficiency and creating a resilient built environment.
In response, Tera is developing an open-source monitoring software framework for the REHOUSE project. This framework will be deployed at the Margherita di Savoia demo site in Puglia, Italy, to support real-time monitoring for refurbishing social housing solutions. By integrating intelligent control logic into a centralised heating and cooling (H&C) renovation kit, the system will optimise energy use, improve occupant comfort, and enable better integration of renewable energy sources. Tera is responsible for the entire monitoring solution, including developing an open-source platform that underpins the innovative renovation kit.
Benefits for the EU and International Community:
- Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation: Contributes to the EU’s climate goals by optimising renewable energy integration.
- Open-Source Solutions: Ensures global accessibility for municipalities, developers, and researchers.
- Enhanced Living Conditions: Improves indoor thermal comfort and reduces operational costs for social housing tenants and building owners.
By developing an open-source monitoring framework, REHOUSE is setting new standards for smart energy renovations. It demonstrates the potential of digital and hardware innovations to transform social housing and contribute to a sustainable future.
