Description
The Solar Decathlon is an international student competition that started in the USA in 2000. In this competition, universities from all over the world are challenged to design, build and operate solar powered houses. It is the only student competition worldwide addressing the performance assessment of realized buildings and not only their design. During the competition’s final phase, each interdisciplinary team assembles its house in a common Solar Village. The final phase includes a public exhibition, monitoring and 10 contests, the reason why the competition was named a "Decathlon". Since 2010, a European branch of this competition exists: until now, three Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE) competitions have taken place, with a fourth taking place in 2019.
Together with three university partners, PNO operates a contract for the European Commission to analyse the results of these four European competitions and (amongst others) feed these results into the SCIS database.
