The ESPRESSO (systEmic standardisation apPRoach to Empower Smart citieS and cOmmunities) project is a Horizon 2020 funded project which aims to ensure the interoperability of Smart City solutions. This will help cities avoiding entry barriers or vendor lock-in through promoting common meta-data structures and interoperable (open) interfaces instead of proprietary ones. ESPRESSO will focus on the development of a conceptual Smart City Information Framework based on open standards. This framework will consist of a Smart City platform and a number of data provision and processing services to integrate relevant data, workflows, and processes. The project will build this framework by identifying relevant open standards, technologies, and information models that are currently in use or in development in various sectors.
