Smart Cities Marketplace supports Pezinok, Slovakia, in advancing smart street lighting

Flag of Slovakia

The Smart Cities Marketplace is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Municipality of Pezinok, Slovakia, to support the city in its journey towards smarter, more energy-efficient urban infrastructure. As part of the Marketplace’s 1-on-1 technical assistance, Pezinok will receive free, tailored technical assistance to develop and implement a smart city street lighting system.

With approximately 24,500 residents, Pezinok is taking bold steps to modernise its outdated public lighting infrastructure. The planned project aims to replace legacy luminaires with LED technology and integrate smart control systems capable of remote monitoring, dimming, and scheduling. This transformation is expected to result in up to 80% energy savings, improved public safety, and enhanced climate resilience.

The support plan was formalised following an online handshaking meeting on 17 June 2025, attended by city representatives and experts from the Smart Cities Marketplace. The technical assistance will span from June to December 2025 and includes assessment of the current situation, identification of suitable technical and financial solutions, and the preparation of a final report summarising the findings and recommendations.

In addition to providing technical guidance, the Smart Cities Marketplace will assist Pezinok in exploring viable business models and identifying potential investors to ensure the project's long-term financial sustainability.

This partnership underlines the Marketplace’s mission to support European cities in delivering climate-neutral, people-centred, and data-driven urban transformation.
