The Smart Cities Marketplace has launched a dedicated programme of technical assistance to support the Municipality of Kifissia, Greece, in the development of mobility hubs that promote multimodality and reduce car dependency.
Following its successful application to the Smart Cities Marketplace call for technical assistance in June 2025, Kifissia was selected to receive tailored support through the Marketplace’s technical assistance programme. An initial online handshaking meeting in August 2025 brought together city representatives and experts from the Smart Cities Marketplace to define the scope and objectives of the support.
The technical assistance builds on Kifissia’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and the city’s long-term commitment to environmentally friendly transport solutions. Located in the northern sector of the Attica region, Kifissia combines strong residential, commercial and leisure activity, creating both opportunities and challenges for sustainable mobility.
Through the consultancy, the Smart Cities Marketplace is supporting the city in three key areas. First, experts will identify and analyse European best practices on mobility hubs and intermodal integration, with particular attention to examples relevant to the Greek and metropolitan context. Second, these practices will be assessed and adapted to Kifissia’s local conditions, taking into account land availability, connectivity and user behaviour. Finally, the consultancy will help define additional technical requirements for the proposed mobility hubs, complementing existing planning documents.
By providing targeted, expert-led technical assistance, the Smart Cities Marketplace aims to help Kifissia move from strategic planning towards implementation-ready solutions, strengthening the city’s capacity to deliver integrated, sustainable mobility infrastructure.
